Study shows healthy growth and predicts continuing trend of more than 10% market growth p.a.
A recent survey by the Business Application Research Center (BARC), which included all 136 BI-Software vendors in Germany has found that in 2007 the market for Business Intelligence Software in Germany reached an overall volume of 689 million Euros. The four leading vendors own almost 50%of the overall market revenue. The market grew an impressive 13,7%between 2006 and 2007. While the four leading vendors mainly grew through acquisitions of other BI-vendors, a lot of smaller players were able to increase revenues organically by more than 30%. For the years to come BARC foresees an annual growth of the German BI-market by 10 to 12% through 2012.
Despite many take-overs in 2007 the overall number of vendors increased. This shows that smaller vendors can survive in this market with innovative and specialized portfolios.
Megatrend "Operative Business Intelligence“
The survey gathered the revenues of the 136 BI software vendors, but also asked the vendors about their predictions for the BI market. Their answers show that most vendors expect Operative Business Intelligence“ as the new megatrend for BI. The survey also introduces newcomers and rising vendors in the market and unravels the revenues by front-end and back-end business.
BARC defines software revenue as the sum of sold licenses plus yearly maintenance and leasing costs. Leasing business models such as SaaS (Software-as-a-service) or Application Service Providing(ASP) are also included in the numbers.
