BI in Medium-Sized Businesses

BI-technology gains ground in German-speaking midmarket

New market research results about business intelligence in the midmarket of German speaking countries show an increasing market potential for vendors. BARC comes to this conclusion after conducting a survey with 250 participants working in enterprises with an annual revenue between €50 million an €1 billion.

While only about half of the surveys' participants are already using BI-tools there are 40% planning the deployment of relevant software.

Reporting (96%), data analysis (86%) as well as planning and budgeting (73%)  seem to be established while management dashboards and balanced scorecards are big subjects for the future. 58% respectively 53% of the interviewed companies will use these methods for supplying the management with focused key indicators, or at least regard them as expedient.

Most companies (87%) are using BI-software for management and controlling. Notable is the wide usage through the departments. BI-tools are also extensively used in sales (65%), IT and accounting. About a third of the midmarket companies are deploying BI in marketing, logistics, procurement, human relations and manufacturing.

Full results of the survey are published in German. The research study can be downloaded for free here
